This procedure must be performed once during the production process to compensate for device-to-device variation. In imaging systems, crosstalk refers to the portion of the return signal received by the sensing array that originates from internal reflections of VCSEL light within the protective window (cover glass) placed over the module for aesthetic and protective purposes. The amount of this internally reflected signal can vary depending on the quality of the cover glass and may significantly impact sensor performance. The VL53L1x sensor includes an internal correction mechanism designed to compensate for this phenomenon. Crosstalk calibration is used to estimate the correction factor required to mitigate the effects introduced by the cover glass. The calibration should be performed in a dark environment, free from any infrared (IR) interference. During the procedure, a 17% reflectance target must be positioned at the defined crosstalk calibration distance (XCD), and the calibration process should then be initiated.
This procedure must be performed once on the production line to compensate for device-to-device variation in absolute distance measurements. This ensures consistency across units, where the measured distance may otherwise differ slightly from one device to another. The offset calibration should always be executed before performing the crosstalk calibration. To carry out the procedure, place a 17% gray target at a fixed distance of 140 mm from the sensor and initiate the calibration.
